Eric (Stephen Collins) talking to Mary in the kitchen.  Eric is in the kitchen feeding Sam and David when Mary comes home. He thinks Annie sent her home to check on him, and she tells him that she just needs to find her mother because she asked her to pick up some soap. He tells her that she's upstairs.  Then Lucy comes in and puts a stack of college brochures on the table. Mary assumes Eric had her sister put them there because he is planning to get on her case about not going to college again. Lucy walks into the kitchen and explains that they are for her because she is applying for early acceptance. Mary then assumes that Lucy is only applying for early acceptance to make Mary bad. Lucy informs them that Mary is wrong, and it has nothing to do with her. (Lot of assuming going on in this scene. Don't they know what happens when you assume something)? Mary: Oh, right, that's why you put that stuff down right in front of my face. The phone rings and Mary answers. It...

Annie (Catherine Hicks) talks with Eric in the kitchen.  Annie suggests her husband go out tonight alone for a bit and Eric likes the idea and says he needs some male bonding time. Annie tells him she has to go see her professor at seven to talk to him about her term paper so she can get it approved. Eric does not trust this professor, who claims he can only see Annie at this time. She tells him the meeting will be thirty minutes or less.  Annie suggests that Mary, Lucy, and Simon can babysit just as Lucy, Simon, and Ruthie are coming downstairs. Simon says he can't babysit because he is going out with a girl name Lu Lu, or at least he hopes he will be. Lucy tells her parents Simon is talking about Lou-Ellen Almire from their church. Eric asks when she got hot, and Simon tells him that it happened during the summer. (Yep, summer break is a good time for kids to grow up).  Lucy says she can babysit. Simon tells his mother he will find another guy and double-date, bu...

Matt (Barry Watson) got a practice test D on a test. Professor Townsend (J. Patrick McCormack) is yelling at his chemistry class for doing so poorly on their practice tests. He tells them they need to pass his class if they plan to take organic chemistry for pre-med. He informs that just "wanting to be a doctor" is not enough; they must also put the work into it. Mary is on the phone at work trying to keep her car insurance from being canceled, and her boss informs her she needs to get back to work. Eric is cooking a casserole so Annie can study for her test. Annie tells him he's become "competent." Eric laughs. The kids come in from school. Ruthie puts a paper on the counter, which Annie picks up and reads. The principal wants to see her and Eric tomorrow.  Ruthie: Wow. What'd you do? Annie: No. I think the question is, what did you do? Ruthie: Nothing, I swear.  Ruthie asks if they got her out of Ms. Riddle's class yet, and they inform her they are...

Annie (Catherine Hicks) tells Eric she's going back to college.  Annie tells her husband she is returning to school to get her degree in Early Childhood Education. He is less than enthused by the news, but she tells him she's going whether he approves of it or not.  (Yeah, Annie! You go, girl)!  She goes to bed, and he goes downstairs.  The opening credits come up, and the theme song plays.  Ruthie is in the nursery dancing with the twins. Simon is rocking out in his room, ready for his first day of high school. Lucy is in the girls' room, also rocking out as she prepares to become a senior in high school.  Mary enters the kitchen and asks her father how she will get to her new job. Eric points out that she had had a new job every week over summer vacation. She tells him not to take it out on her just because she is mad at Annie. She says she got a job as a waitress at the pool hall, and he should be glad that at least she's not with Robbie any long...
